It's not a crash as in 'halts the machine', it's the OOM killer running
rampant. It's a known bug. Given I'm running on a desktop, killing X is
basically a crash of the machine, because every single process I'm running
gets killed or commits suicide.
I'll update my kernel at some point, probably 2.4.5 I think. I know there is
supposedly a fix for it, so hopefully that'll do the trick.
