I'm not sure.
You could try and put the packes you forced on hold,
(echo "packagename hold" | dpkg --set-selections).
Or while I was searching for something else a while ago, I stumbled
across equivs (apt-cache show equivs) I havent tried it, and I dont even
know if its in potato (I use sid) but it could help I guess.
