I just used mkisofs and cdrecord from the command line to burn my first
disk.

583Mb image created and burned in less than 20 mins, as the disk could
only cope with 4x speed, although the drive can handle 8. Must try that.

But anyway, thanks to the wonder of ide-scsi, installation took less than
10 minutes, including messing about with stuff it /etc/fstab (I reordered
my ide channels a little (read alot))
