[Sheflug] DMA errors on hda

This has me puzzled.
The people I've asked already, have basically told me that hda is
buggered, dead as a dodo etc. etc. etc.

My problem is this.
Ripping a cd to ogg, the first time it happend with abcde, so
cdparanoia and oggenc were running at the same time, the second time,
just cdparanoia.

It would appear, that heavy usage of /dev/hda at the same time as heavy
usage of /dev/cdrom (ie, the first time cdparanoia and oggenc, the
second cdparanoia and dpkg) gives me dma errors. (not always)

May 28 10:16:56 vetinari kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
May 28 10:16:56 vetinari kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }

this has *only* happened, on occaisions as I have described. heavy activity
on both disks (hda and cdrom, different controllers, cdrom -> hdc)
reasonably heavy load in general (~1.8 - 2.3)

kernel 2.4.2, and 2.4.4 (cant go back to 2.2.x, need stable USB support)
VP_IDE: VIA vt82c686a (rev 22) IDE UDMA66 controller on pci00:07.1
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xd000-0xd007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xd008-0xd00f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio
hda: 40011300 sectors (20486 MB) w/512KiB Cache, CHS=2490/255/63, UDMA(33)
hdc: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, UDMA(33)

Any ideas?
(apart from stop ripping cd's and hitting the disk at the same time) :)
