IIRC, nothing to worry about. Occasional CRC errors under heavy load,
which get fixed automatically by re-reading the same block of information
aren't dangerous. Also, VIA chipset does have a history of problems with
high (66, 100) UDMA. You might want to check Linux kernel mailing list

To what IDE channel did you connect your second hd? I presume, the first
one is on hda, your second CD is on hdc, where's the 1st one? Yes you need
suitable cable for UDMA, in particular it has to be short. Mandrake might
have a different kernel configuration, which resulted in lower UDMA
values. You can check your current setup with
/sbin/hdparm -I /dev/hdx
