Re: [Sheflug] Newbie again - help needed!



You probably did one of three things (both related to LILO config)#

a) Selected install LILO to floppy
b) Selected install LILO to partition
c) Did not install LILO at all

It seems many distros default to some strange setting such as install to
floppy. This is sensible, because it lets you get up and running without
potentially damaging your boot sector, but can be rather confusing!

What you could do is this... stick in the boot floppy/CD and boot to the
LILO prompt, then type:

linux root=/dev/hdb1

where /dev/hdb1 is the root partition you installed to.

Then, use linuxconf or something to set up LILO to boot from the MBR of
/dev/hda and your away!

Any trouble, just shout
