OK, my email was not "automagically" redirected to a Freeserve mailserver.

When I attempted to send an email, my local Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol service, QMail, attempted to connect over TCP/IP to the SMTP server
running on port 25 of the remote host upon which resides the mail account
of the person that I was attempting to communicate with.

I theorize that my ISP, Freeserve, have transparent redirection in place on
their boundry firewalls which redirected my SMTP server's attempt to
connect to the remote host to Freeserve's own mailserver, which then
relayed my email(s) on to the final destination remote host, probably
for security reasons.

The only problem with this approach is:

a) I do not know enough about:
 i) TCP/IP
 ii) Routing
iii) Freeserve's network and its status
 iv) SMTP/email

to be accurate and

b) I couldn't be arsed explaining it all, because it was largely
irrelevant

hence

"automagic" will do.

Also, judging by
http://tuxedo.org/jargon/html/entry/automagically.html "automagic" has
been around for longer than I have.

Cheers!
