I don't know if this is actually a source of confusion, but I thought I 
should point it out: in the United States, "public" schools are government 
funded, free to anyone in a particular geographic area, whereas "private" 
schools are non-government, tuition funded schools, usually more 
prestigious and often better than the public equivalent.

I believe that in the UK it is the exact opposite.
