[sheflug] Changine editors?

Dose anyone know how to set /etc/profile up with an specific text editor in my
case emacs instead of vi as idon't know how to use it yet. Will learn to use it
(later rather than sooner) :( So that crontab -e will bring up emacs instead of
vi. I tried adding  EDITOR=/usr/bin/emacs
                         EDITOR:  export USERNAME ENV PATH EDITOR

It say does not reconise EDITOR :: command not found
can you guys help me
