You can probably do it with a one-liner. In fact, there is a
program called "bu" (rather old) which I used to use for the task of
NFS-backing up files through a crontab entry. If you can't be bothered
with bu (and i can't remember where to get hold of it), the tar info
page provides all the info you need.
