If it's a high bandwidth cable modem then you most definitely need a 
good firewall instalation.  If you are worried about using a PIII for 
a firewall then don't use that machine.  Use some scrap from 
somewhere else instead.

If you build a firewall machine then it's quite simply the case that 
many people will try to root it so that they can steal data from you. 
 My own firewall logs for a dialup firewall box look like something 
out of a detective story.  Against this background of fact rather 
than fiction you should have a properly configured firewall if you 
want to use the net.
