Just as an aside to this one there are a few newsworthy items going 
around about the use of Linux in film making.  That's for both 
cartoons and rendering actors so that real people don't need to be 
employed.  Thus saving on a lot of things.

Apparently there's a company in New Zealand called Weta Digital who 
use a cluster of sixteen SGI 1200 servers with Linux to render frames 
for film making.  Weta say that by using Linux the cost of a frame is 
a tenth of what of what it might have been if they use Renderman for 
Linux.  The speed of the cluster means that much higher detail can be 
produced in each frame. This means higher quality for less money or 
for the same money if more time is taken to render the frame.

A good example of what can be done with Linux is Shrek which was 
turned out by Dreamworks.
