Message----- Hi! I am a
newbie, trying to enter the world of Linux. I have purchaces Mandrake 8.0 and
have successfully installed it and I am now duel booting with Windows ME, and
all is fine .. EXCEPT ... I am
unable to connect to my ISP when in Linux. I can however connect fine in WinME.
I am
using KDE, and it's connect facilities. But there's a few options I am unsure
of. LF/CR, CR, LF, CHAP, PAP .. etc. Use
CHAP don’t need modem string just type in your DNS numbers provided by
your ISP btinternet.com Found
no problem but set these options after you have installed, Mandrake 8.1 beta 2 provides
chap option on internet Connection in install mode. Good
luck, are you going to the meeting on Sat this week Fred Modem string .. all that sort of stuff had freaked me out, and I
am unsure what to do. I don't want to have to call my ISP, as they charge 50p a
minute, and this may cost me my yearly wages! I
connect to BT Internet, using the Anytime number (08089933001). I am not using
a WinModem. I have a USR 33.6/56K modem. When I
dial, it makes the screaching sounds, but then freezes on a particular sound,
and just stays like that. I am in Windows now, but if I remember correctly, it
says 'EXPECTING: CONNECT' at the bottom. I then
click cancel and it stops, the modem resets and that's it. I try again, and
again, but with no luck. Do you
have any advice for me in how I can come right here and get Linux dialled up? Thanks
very much! Craig |
