Samba is primarily a tool to allow UNIX to look/behave like a Windows host, 
so most of the attention is given there. The client side smbmount and smbfs 
is Linux specific, and is, as I understand it, more of a "give-away" special 
offer type thang to Linux users. Also, if you haven't already, read 
Documentation/filesystems/smbfs.txt (at least, that's where it is on 2.2.14) 
for some more info on some specifics of smbfs and options to avoid).
