Ah yes, but my cunning plan is not to reinstall but just to make a copy 
of my current setup.  Main reason is that I've installed quite a lot of 
software in the last year and not all available on any distro disks 
(e.g. haskell, sml) or installed in /usr/local either (e.g. mysql):

bash-2.05# find /usr/bin -daystart -mtime -30 -print | wc
    33      33     688
shows there are 32 files modified in /usr/bin within the last 30 days, 
for example.

Of course, I should know exactly what I've done and how to redo it 
without spending hours, but my sysadmin approach is more haphazard than 
that.  I suppose what I should have done is keep a log of all the 
actions necessary to install software packages and write scripts to 
automate the process, but it takes too long to do the installations in 
the first place...
