Why cut the samba? I need this to share files between machines (the other two 
are windows machines). I could set up another machine with smoothwall on and 
use that as the gateway for the whole system, would this help? I'm not too 
fluent on ipchains or iptables. I attended the meeting where Alistair gave a 
talk on them but that's pretty much all I know about them.

How would I do this? I'll be using TCP/IP but this is my first time (really, 
apart from networking my linux box to a smoothwall box a few months ago) at 
networking.

What I meant was, if one machine isn't plugged into the network will it still 
function properly.
