Is there any reason for this? I'm a bit confused as to why.

I take it back =o) I've not yet tried 8.2. The last one I had was 8.0 I think
but I do like the hardware detection in mandrake. Have you heard of Knoppix
(www.knopper.net/knoppix)? This is a german distribution and it has some
really intensive hardware detection routines. I've not used it much though, I
just tried it out to get more information on how hardware detection works.

When is the install fest? I'll probably attend. I havn't tried out woody yet.
I had potato on my laptop for a while but I've not tried debian for a bit.
