No good reason beyond "convention", however I'd be tempted to put a
gateway/firewall at .254 rather than .1 (and I was told that it makes more
sense at the high end and given a reason which I've since forgotten :) ) ...
A machine can have any IP address you want it to, and that machine can do
whatever you want. So if you want it at .2, feel free to keep it at .2 ,
though you'll probably get people tell you it should really be at .1 or
.254, it doesn't change the network logistics where it is.
