Thats about it! I am not sure if you can do the tunefs with the partion
mounted rw so you may have to do it at single user level with the rootfs
mounted ro

You may want to add 
tune2fs -i 0 -c 0 /dev/hdxx
but I kinda like the fs to be cheked every 20 mounts or so for my
paranoia!

If you have ext3 compile in it should detect that first and mount it I
think.
