Although the underlying OS of the RAID box is FreeBSD, I believe, you can't
get at the smb.conf file. All you get is a web interface that lets you
create users/groups/permissions etc and these are already set up and working.
My problem is that although the remote user can connect and read all the
various files, everything appears owned as user 'root' and the samba user
doesn't have any write privileges. This isn't the case when connecting from
a Windoze box so I'm assuming it's a problem with permissions on the
connecting linux box.
I'm mounting the SAMBA share with the line;
mount -t smbfs -o username=<user>,password=<password> //server/Public /Public
(this is in a startup script so I guess is running as root)
and I have the following line in /etc/fstab (don't know if it's of any
relevance)
//server/Public /Public smbfs noauto,user,rw 0 0
I suppose that although I think I am, I'm not actually mounting the share
with the correct permissions.
