Assuming the audio stuff is set up properly, there could be an problem with 
the Arts daemon startup. Try using xmms or something and see if that can play 
sounds. If it can't you'll need to check your sound config. If it can, it 
could be an Arts problem.

To check the Arts problem, go to the K control panel, and click sound->sound 
server. Try clicking 'restart arts daemon' (or similiar) and see if it throws 
a more useful error back.
