    Are you sure the module is loaded into the kernel (or set-up to be
autoloaded)? /sbin/lsmod should show a list of loaded up modules, and
you should the module for the soundcard around there. Also, check the
permissions for /dev/dsp (they're root-audio here, so you cannot use
this service unless your user is in the audio group).
