[Sheflug] "Permissions" problem?

Here we go again!

I'm sure this is a 'permissions' thing....

Since my hard-drive death last month, I've now got a clean set-up of
Mandrake 8.2. The 'Primary' hard-drive contains the Windows installation, and
the secondary drive contains Mandrake Linux.

In my /home/ruthie folder, I have created a symlink to the 'user' area of the
'windows' drive partition 'E'. This means I can access my work on the
'Windows' drive from within Linux, (and from my other computers via the
network) which is great. However, when I try to save anything /to/ that area,
I am informed "Access denied". If I log-in as root, then I can save o.k. (but
then, everything is owned by root), it's just when logged-in as ruthie that I
can't save.

I've tried two different symlinks, one owned by 'ruthie' and one by 'root'.
I've also tried changing the ownership of everything on 'E' to ruthie,
without success. I've also tried setting the permissions to the symlink and
all folders on 'E' to rwxrwxrwx. Still no joy.

What am I doing wrong? (or not doing?). Am I approaching this problem in the
wrong way to start with?
