I've tried to configure several PCs here, all of which use the on-board 
CMI8330 sound device. alsaconf finds the hardware ok but then fails when it 
tries to load the drivers etc.

I'm using SuSE8.0 does anyone know of any issues with this distro and the 
CMI8330 hardware?

One of the errors I get is modprobe complaining that it can't find the 
modules sound-slot-1 and
I can send some of the error messages that are produced or 
/etc/modules.conf if that's of any help.
