Answers to your questions..

1) Fat fingers and late nights.. Yes the sub net mask should read 
255.255.255.0.

2) A hacked RH7.2 - It prints fine through the parallel port, but I need this 
for other things.

3) The printer was configured through the front panel.

4) Tried lpd stop/start and even rebooting all to no avail.
