Have a look at Knoppix - this is intended as a stand-alone distro to run
from a CD but can easily be installed on a hard disk with the installer
script included on the CD and installs the latest Debian very easily. I had
previously discounted Debian as being too 'geeky' due to the difficult
install but this distro makes life as easy as installing Mandrake..
