[Sheflug] Recovering lost Linux (killed by WinXP)
Hi all,
A sad story: One of the guys had a dual-boot Windouch2000/RedHat7.3
PC in which the Windows bit became unbootable in an unrecoverable (by
me anyway) fashion. So I set about to reinstall W2k on the NTFS partition
(after using the still-functional Linux to save all his files off the defunct
W2k bit onto CD - I did expect something like to following to occur).
Somewhat to my surprise (as I've heard many times that one should
always install Win first then Lin as otherwise Windows will overwrite
the master boot record and upset Linux) it was still offering me the
choice of OS after the new W2k install. Unfortunately, bloody W2k
wasn't recognizing the audio, so we decided (rather than mess about
looking for drivers) to move up to WinXP.
Sadly, the Windows XP install did bugger up the boot, so now I have a
lovely WXP that instantly recognized all the hardware correctly, but
have lost access to Linux. Is there a simple way to reconstitute the
dual-boot? Or do I need to reload Linux? Not a serious issue, it
could be construed as a golden opportunity to upgrade Linux too.
I'm just curious really, (and as I vaguely recall some agro with the
original Linux setup it might save me a bit of time).
Cheers, Jan
