Insert a resuce CD (you can often use the original install CD to do
this). When it comes to the boot prompt type 
linux root=/dev/hda1
(or whatever partition your root is)

It will then boot back into your original linux. Rerun lilo, or
whatever boot manager you use.

If all that sounds like goobdegook, then a reinstall is your next
option.

Unless the file system is trashed, there is always a way to get Linux
back if you're not afraid of getting your hands dirty.
