[Sheflug] Problems Within Problems

Using KDE 3.1.3 on Suse 8.2
Earlier this week I wrote of a problem I was having with KDE. Briefly KDE was
graphically unstable, and logging off resulted in KDE rebooting.
I went through things and found that the problem was a fix I had picked up in
Linux Magazine (issue 34. pp 42-43) to a passphrase problem with KGPG.
To stop KGPG showing an error message "no passphrase" I had extended
~/.xinitrc with the following script:
eval $(gpg-agent --daemon)
startkde
killall gpg-agent
This worked KGPG worked enabling encrypted messages to be decrypted. However
the fault described at the start of this message materialised. Removal of the
script no problem with KDE but problem with KGPG, and insertion of the script
no problem with KGPG but problem with KDE - cause and effect!
This is a learning exercise for me and I would appreciate any advice as to
where to go from here. I know that the idea behind the script is to get the
gpg-agent to run in the background and to kill the agent when I log off. So
any ideas as to how I can achieve this without destabilising KDE on the way?
