[Sheflug] 2.6.1 v 2.4.24 plus question on root kits
Hello everyone
I need to build and install a new kernel.
Is anyone out there on 2.6.1 ? Is it stable?
Or should I go to 2.4.24 for now?
As an aside, I have read about rootkits, nasty evil
things that they are. Would changing a kernel not
change a root kit on a system?
The only way to confirm a root kit has been installed
seemed to be to identify that some files have changed.
This implies the ability to compare /bin /sbin /usr/bin
/usr/sbin (and other directories? ) against good code
or are there others of checking ?
What if you've downloaded Debian off the net. Do you keep a copy
of a fresh install elsewhere on your system and how do you know when
you've got all the commands that are likely to be attacked?
Regards to all
Lesley
