I have looked at www.postnuke.org and can find loads modules etc, but no a
lot in the way of docs.

Cheers

Rob
I looked at post, php and my phpnuke amongst others when I set up my first
portal. I now support three sites using myPHPNuke which at the time I
thought was the better one. I can't see any way of limiting login /
registration other than removing the register box from the side bar and
editing user.php to stop people that know the parameter to pass to user.php
that brings up the registration page from typing in the url directly.

If you just want a forum and don't need to go the whole portal route you
could set up just a forum using phpBB or similar. You can find out loads at
http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Discussion_Boards/index.h
tml

Some forum scripts are now including more portal style notices for their
front page.

Another one to consider is mamboserver but this is more of a CMS than a
portal and although it can have a BB I don't think it installs by default
with one.

I'm not sure about user management on these.

If you are in Sheffield the LEA are setting up a new forum system for
technicians in schools that will replace the not so well used (or
publicised) existing forum. I started using it (the old one) about 2 years
ago but there was little activity and the forum software was old and lacked
features like "mail me when I get a reply" which is really important. I
didn't use it for long. I have been asking recently about when the new one
will go live but "soon" is as accurate as I can get. The school technicians
I work with would really benefit from a well publicised and well used forum
as they are in effect in most cases working in isolation. The LEA does not
hold/host a technicians meeting which I think is termly where they can all
get to gether but its day to day contact that would be more beneficial.

If you need more help let me know.
