TFT prices are getting more realistic again now as well with 17" models
lower than £200 with vat. When I recently spec'ed a school IT suite we
chose to go with TFTs because:
1) They left more desk space free for the children to work in when not using
the computer.
2) they didn't obstruct the chilren's line of site to the front of the class
as much (they were no lower but had much less volume overall).
3) They didn't use as much power and so didn't produce as much heat making
working in the suite on a hot sunny day with 16 monitors and 33 bodies
kicking out loads of heat a lot less unpleasant. (Some other schools have
installed air conditioning in their suites; I worked out it was cheaper to
go for TFTs than CRTs plus air con.
4) They were a very good price in the bundle I bought them in (<£140 for a
15" screen which was good at the time).

A 15" TFT is a similar size to 17" CRT so unless you are conidering
upgrading your screen size at the same time the price comparison is much
more favourable.

Is there a major noticable difference between analogue and DVI TFT screens
or is it marketting hype?
