Just tell them that you've pointed your browser at the Netgear router and it
says "no connection". Assuming you have pointed your browser at the router
and it DOES say no connection. ADSL is not dial on demand. Your router
should connect even if there are no PCs connected to it. I'm not sure about
the lights on the Netgear box but the USR one I have flashes fast, then slow
as its connecting, then another light comes of as it tries to get its IP
address then the original flashing light either goes steady (connected) or
starts flashing again (renegotiating). Normally gets it second or third
time (about 1 minute after power up). Your OS has nothing to do with the
state of the connection from the router box to the Internet.

If BT asks you what OS you are running then it confirms that I was right to
not go with them.

Mine's £14.99 PCM (Plusnet) with a free transfer (IIRC) but you might have a
minimum contract with BT. Still if they are not providing the service you
are paying for they are in breach of contract and you may have a get out
clause. Do you not have access to a laptop with Window$ on it to keep them
happy?
