Dunno about that... I've never used VB (see no reason to either) but while 
I'm by no means a PHP expert, I do use it and find it exceptionally useful 
if for no other reason than you can intersperse your HTML with it (or vice 
versa) to do something useful.

Whether that's a valid enough reason, I'll leave others to discuss.
