Sorry, that's donkey do, PHP is not at all similar to VB. The language
is completely different, VB under ASP is completely different. They're
not at all implemented in any similar way.
Implementation doesn't mean language. php is easily embedding inside
pages, same as ASP usually is. mod_perl code runs separately from the pages.
Most hosting companies will not allow you to use mod_perl.
http://perl.apache.org/help/isps.html lists four such; one of which is a
virtual server solution and hence a non-answer.
Non-answer? For people running massive sites with many hundreds of
users. I run my site currently on a virtual hosting setup, running scoop
under mod_perl. It's run that was for over a year, and is serving many
hundreds of users a day. We've now outgrown it, and are going to a more
powerful server with some other scoop sites, but the virtual server
worked well for over a year while traffic increased.
Virtual servers can be usful, but they aren't always the right tool for
the job. To just dismiss them out of hand because they aren't right for
you is a bit short sighted.
