One last thought form me on this, why not give your better half 1 X Unbuntu CD 
and 1 X Kunbuntu CD? If they are both the latest 6.6 editions, your superior 
half can run them as live CD's, pick the one she prefers and click and 
install. If she is not looking to play, they are both good stable desktops.
