Can anyone recommend a decent document scanner that will just work with 
Gentoo Linux? I have a middle-aged Epson Perfection 640U, which I cannot 
get working with Gentoo; I'm considering chucking it out.

I've sought help on the Gentoo-AMD64 e-mail list, but although willing, 
no-one there can offer much help.
