We use a Canon Lide 20 (plustek backend) and a Mustek 1200 UB (gt68xx backend)
which work fine - but your Epson Perfection ought to work according to

We've had to return scanners before as the manufacturers sometimes change the
chipsets without altering the model number - if yours isn't the 0x04b8
0x010c chipset it probably won't work.
We did have some HP All-In-Ones, which scanned fine, but the printer drivers
wrecked the heads fairly quickly, then they refused to scan.
