Attercliffe isn't that dark a dungeon any more. Maybe 20 years ago.
There are however probably better comparisons. Some of us are sat in
Attercliffe.

Aluminium cabling, patches all over the shop. I can quite understand how
the distances can add up. My home is in a similar situation.

Funny. Most (heavy) users seem to be going the other way at the moment.

...If we heave hard enough, we might just drag some on-topic content to
this... :)
I've just switched from an IPCop linux f/w & router with a Conexant card
to a Cisco 870 router. I've got better overall S/N ratios now and a
significantly more stable connection. I suspect the Conexant cards
weren't that good (Maplin specials - I tried two). If only SDM on the
Cisco didn't die regularly (on Windows - running on Linux renders the
characters too large to use).
