*if* I need to destroy a cd beyond recovery I always either snap it a
few times or use an angle grinder, I don't put much stock in these
shredders that only pattern the surface with a bunch of dots, especially
with cd resurfacing tech coming on in leaps and bounds year after year.

(Saw a demo (last year) of a small machine that pops out a tray, you
dump a cd in (really scratched/damaged) and about 30 minutes later it
pops out again with a new surface on top. I wont be doing anything less
than physical destruction from now on)
