Surely that's a plan that can only backfire... where the ID card is
concerned, I think it's more likely they're relying on the fact that
unless its own MPs turn on it (a career limiting move in any party),
Her Majesty's Government can do whatever, however, it pleases.

I think it's simply that after one story has come out, they're
announcing everything else now to get it out of the way, in the same
way that a serial criminal will ask for 34 similar offences to be
taken into consideration when he cops for the one he got caught doing.
