I bought an Asus eeePc 701. I didn't bother to change the OS, the
Xandros one worked just fine. I did install a compiler though, and also
dhcp/tftp/nfs-server/LTSP so that I could PXE boot our (wmltd.co.uk)
products in order to re-flash their OS when on-site - that's my
I'm-so-clever-here's-what-I-did-with-my-eeepc boast ;).
The keyboard is undeniably cramped, but usable, as is the screen.
In John Lewis in Sheffield, there are some Acer Aspire One laptots -
they had one with Acer's Fedora Core 8 based interface and two with
Windows XP. They're very nice with a larger screen and a keyboard which
is just that little bit bigger than the Asus eeePc - I found I could
type properly on it. Given the choice, I think I'd go for the Acer,
because of its excellent keyboard. I've not seen any of the more recent
eeepcs, though.
cheers,
Seb James
