Why is that?

That is what I've been told as well, VirtualBox is optimized as a desktop VM system whereas ESXi and Xen are apparently better for server based applications. I'm currently test driving all three on my new server. VirtualBox and VRDP is winning so far but only because I've not got far enough with the other two to comment.

seem to turn up a few worthwhile links imho.
All of the links out there point at old packages. I was hoping a
debian wizard would tell me that there's a automagic way of dowloading
the source packages are rebuilding them. I seem to remember back some
years that Alex H built his own X11 from source packages in a
reasonably automated fashion.

further digging in Debian land required.
