I recently set up a Sheeva plug as a web server, but it could also be
used as an email server too. The plug cost me £80, and I obtained a
domain from dyndns.com, which didn't cost me anything. Configuring
the plug is not for the feint hearted, so I don't think I would
recommend this for Linux beginners, but the total cost of running this
is very low in terms of electricity and I'm not paying out any
additional hosting/subscription fees.
