[Sheflug] Eee pc 4g linking with desktop

Hi Everyone,

I received an Eee pc 4g as a birthday present in April. I haven't done much with it. I have been looking at it again recently, mainly because it must use a lot less energy than my desktop.

I have purchased a flash drive (16 gb) and have been trying out some different distros on it. I have also seen on Youtube that it appears to be quite simple to upgrade the memory from 512mb to either 1 gb or 2 gb.

At present my emails come into Thunderbird on my desktop. I use Firefox with a plugin to moderate a group. I would like to use the Eee pc with Firefox, watch Youtube videos and maybe even use Skype with the webcam.

I check my emails using webmail when I am using the Eee pc. If I need to reply to an email, I use the desktop, so I have a record of the email.

So basically what I want to do is use the Eee pc, but my desktop to know what I have been doing and to have that information. I don't even know the name for what I am trying to do.

An aside. When I go to my library, they have a box, screen, keyboard and mouse. It means you can plug in at the USB ports or use the CD drive.

I have been to libraries in other areas of the country and they only have a screen, keyboard and mouse. So it appears that all the screens are linked to a big computer. I really don't understand it?

My questions are:
To anyone on list who has an old Eee pc, to run Firefox and maybe Thunderbird, do I need 1gb or 2 gb or memory?

Which distro are you using with your Eee pc which is fully functional?

Can someone explain in simple terms the different ways I can do what I want? Or if it is possible to do what I want?

I have only run live distros at present. The only one that has managed to play SOME Youtube videos is Bodhi. It is an ongoing issue I have with my desktop as well, since the last time I upgraded I haven't been able to watch Youtube videos, well only through mtube.

For your information, I am running Open Suse 12.1 KDE on my desktop.

Thank you.

Regards

Janet
