I've got a 4G.  Used it all over the world.  Nice hardware. Your main 
problem is lack of storage space.  I use a portable plug in USB DVD 
drive for installation.  Easy to use.  Distro to use ?  I've used 
PCLinuxOS.  CrunchBang. Puppy Linux.  Tiny Core.  Damn Small.   
EasyPeasy and Leeenux.

I found that it's best to try a few until you settle into something 
that you can get used to.  Great feeling once you get there.
