Just as an add on to this ...  support for USB in the 2.4 kernels is 
now getting to the point where it's hard not to find a driver.  Both 
Craig and myself have been able to sync our Handspring Visor palmtops 
with our workstations and laptops through the USB cradle that comes 
with the Visor with the use of Jpilot.

Doesn't mean you'll get USB support for everything though :)
