Sorreee - I got confused again but I still have to pluck up courage to type
'killall' - sounds a bit too final!

Now here's the source of the problem - I looked in inetd.conf originally but
it only contains a single line setting up 'swat' - no additional text and
nothing to uncomment.
Anyway I've now downloaded a couple of ftpd progs and I'll see if I have
more joy with them - I've just installed Troll-ftpd+ident-1.22-8b.i386.rpm
and its gorn and hidden itself away somewhere so I'm now trying to search
for it - perhaps they ought to make computers in spheres so there's no
corners for files to hide away in!!
