Well, the problem is caused by BT simply installing a "second line" by
installing a device known as, if I get the spelling right, a DAX... basically
all it is is a line splitter that takes a single feed, and splits it into two.

The simple solution is phone BT, give 'em merry hell, and ask for a *REAL*
second line, not a splitter. And they're talking crap if they've not heard it
before[1] ... when on Prestel, this was a very popular topic in the prestel.*
heirachy. I'm sure if you hunt uk.telecom in Dejanews, you'll pull summat up
about it.

Chris...

[1] ignore the call centre bods - they're just paid to accept calls and type
things into a computer, they may or may not have heard of this problem
depending on training or past experience...ask for the technical guys or a
supervisor, if they'll put you onto them...
