Re: [Sheflug] Charset not available
Many thanks to Ross and Stephen for your advice re. the charset error message.
I have now read the messages using KMail running in XF86.40 and KDE1.92 (as
supplied with SuSE7.0). The error message is no longer there, but I could still do
with the typeface being larger. Old age and glasses and all that! I'll see what that
Newbie site has to say about it.
A follow-on question, please.
Should I be able to decide whether I log on to KDE1.1.2 or 1.92 and they both
work?
I have spent a lot of time during the past two days trying to get them both to
work. I have been using 1.1.2 and I can mount floppies and CD-ROMs and use
them OK. I can also play music CD's using KSCD. However, with KDE1.92 I could
only mount floppies and CD-ROMs manually, using the "mount" command. If I tried
to mount using the desktop icon I got an error message stating that it can't
mount as it can't find CD-ROM (or floppy) in either /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab.
The lines definitely are in /etc/fstab, but not /mtab. I am assuming that the
earlier KDE also uses these same files, so they do work. I have got over that by
selecting "properties/device" in the icon and re-selecting CD-ROM (or Floppy).
This makes the icons work, but I have then lost the icons in KDE1.1.2 and have
to mount the drives manually. I am going round in circles here, and can find no
way out. Finally, I cannot get the CDPlayer to work in KDE1.92. The CD doesn't
even start turning. I can't find anything in the help files or the KDE
Control Centre.
Is it one or the other, or should both work, please?
Sorry to ask another question.
A Very Happy Christmas to you all.
Keith
